Interdisciplinary Ethics Center

Ethikzentrum_Bild089_250Px.jpgThe Interdisciplinary Ethics Center Freiburg was founded in December 2005 by a cross-faculty initiative at the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg.
Specialized ethicists from the following faculties are involved in the Ethics Center: Faculty of Philosophy (Chair of Philosophy, focus on ethics, Prof. Hühn), Faculty of Theology (Institute of Practical Theology, Department of Caritas Science and Christian Social Work, Prof. Baumann) and Faculty of Medicine (Institute of Ethics and History of Medicine, Prof. Maio). Thus, in the field of interdisciplinary ethics research, the dialogue between natural sciences and humanities is institutionally anchored. The core task of the Center is the promotion of interdisciplinary ethics research, the establishment of innovative interdisciplinary forms of teaching, and the provision of ethical advice to public and private institutions.

Interdisciplinary Ethics Center:

  • Management Board: Prof. Dr. Giovanni Maio, Executive Director (Institute for Ethics and History of Medicine, Freiburg)
Prof. Dr. Klaus Baumann (Institute for Practical Theology, Department of Caritas Science and Christian Social Work, Freiburg)
Prof. Dr. Lore Hühn (Philosophy Seminar, Freiburg)
